Haircolor Salon Dirk: The Beginning

We are living the dream of a young blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl, whose dream was to serve people by helping them feel good about themselves through their self-images.

Haircolor Salon Dirk started 22 years ago with only the dream of that girl, Jo-Anna, and a client base.

Jo-Anna started in the beauty industry in 1961, with the thought of owning her own salon. She completed cosmetology school with a teacher’s license but had yet to discover the vast wealth of opportunity that was part of this billion dollar industry.

Finding herself totally mesmerized by what the technical color people performed at shows, Jo-Anna set off to develop her experience. Her first job as a licensed cosmetologist was as a hairdresser. From there her journey led her to the position of assistant manager at a standing-room-only salon located in the Pocono’s of Pennsylvania. There Jo-Anna began to set the wheels in motion of becoming a colorist. She sought out the technical color people who once caught her eye at the hair shows and joined the Wella Corporation. Here Jo- Anna trained day and night, traveled for 8 years as a technical color representative and platform artist and found the doors and opportunities were endless. Jo-Anna took a position as the first hair color specialist in the greater Northwest. She was to design the color training program, train the growing colorists and do color on the growing client base.

The years flew by and the time to realize the dream had come. In 1989 Haircolor Salon Dirk was born, with continuing education as the root of Jo-Anna’s vision. It is now 2011 and the next step for this salon is becoming a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon — exclusively featuring John Paul Mitchell Systems products, including hair care, hair color, and other chemical service products.
